Came across this firm in Phx, AZ as they are hiring. Can anyone give me their thoughts on what they think of the firm in terms of the size of the deals they work on. I wouldn't mind returning to these guys after graduating undergrad if I would be able to have a great learning experience, lifestyle and have a decent pay.
Also, they are creating their own fund for their future investments in the asset classes they target.
I will caveat this with: I do not know this firm, but it looks like they are a small shop in terms of deal size, and amount of deals. However, it looks like they only have one analyst on their team. I think that your experience could go one of two ways, either they are active and since they are such a small team you would get to learn a lot and be very involved. Or it could be that they are small and not well capitalized and can only handle a few deals a year, in which case you wouldnt get the amount of reps you are looking for. In terms of actual deals, they look like they are mostly buying single tenant net leased retail, and some single tenant office and industrial. These wont be that complicated to model, and you may feel that after the initial learning curve things are pretty stagnant.
At a small shop they also are probably not going to pay you well, I say all these things not to discourage you, but instead to inform you that these are the questions you should be asking them.
Based on the owner's bio, he seems like an interesting guy so it might be a cool opportunity to work directly with him and learn from him. Also when deal sizes are this small, it is more likely that you would be able to replicate a strategy similar to this in several years after learning the ropes. It all comes down to what you are looking to get out of the experience, and we all are looking for different things.
Got it, yeah that's understandable. So I'm really applying for an Acquisitions Intern role at the firm. Can I still ask the Analyst how much he gets paid?
Because in my introductory call with him, he said "yeah there is the potential to be a full time analyst after the internship as well".
