Capital Markets IP

Hello all, I was hoping that anyone could give me some additional information regarding the Capital Markets arm of companies such as CBRE, Savills, and JLL. Specifically, the Investment Properties department. I know that they are in charge of disposals and acquisitions of office buildings, development sites, serviced apartments, etc. But what are specifically the tasks of an intern in such a company? And, how well regarded are these internships when applying to a MF. As it is loosely considered to be M&A, how well would this ‘fit’ for an internship / FT function in M&A IBD?

Any answers are much appreciated, thank you in advance.

I do not think an internship with a CRE IP team would bear any relevance to M&A IBD. When I worked at one of the brokerages you mentioned, I have seen many interns dedicated to the investment sales teams come and go. Their duties varied from researching building owner phone numbers, finding basic market data for OM books (employment, demographics, etc.), to helping our IT guy set up computers. The financial analysis is, well, left to the financial analysts. I am sure with some downtime you can have some of the full time analysts walk you through some models and such, but real estate pro-formas and DCFs are very basic compared to what you would see in an M&A role. The most you would take out of one of these internships is learning your market, fundamentals of transactions, business development skills, and potential to network with clients.
