Columbia Masters Real Estate Development (MSRED)
Hi, I am applying to Columbia's MSRED to diversify my options upon graduation in May. I am curious about how competitive the program is for acceptance and want to know if anyone thinks I have a chance.
- I have a 3.62 undergraduate GPA
- major in finance and emphasis in real estate, financial technologies certificate, honors college
- 3 internships: MF development for 3 months, RE PE for 3 months at an accredited PE firm, and currently working retail development for the past 2 months where I plan on working until graduation.
- I'm also ARGUS Enterprise certified and completed the WSP financial modeling course
Any recommendations to stand out or do you think I have a chance of getting accepted?
I think you should get accepted, but I would also recommend getting real world experience before doing it. Other comments have echoed it, but real world experience beats and May is still far away. If you go through the program you be with 2/4 to 3/4 of Masters students in major programs in the city who are doing it full time with no internships.

Yes and even though those people may not have RE experience, they have work experience so for scarce internships they will still get chosen over you with no work experience and no skills that could even translate to what a real estate firm is looking for.

I went there a few years ago. For most of the top jobs that interview through the school the kids with prior finance and real estate backgrounds always had a leg up. Would recommend working for a year minimum before going ideally 2-3.
I will say for those who don’t have a job come the spring not the worst idea to go directly into the program.
Hey can I dm you on tips for applying for next year's program? Have prior 5 years of finance experience (non RE) and have done my own deals/entrepreneurial ventures, now looking to be more immersed in the CRE world. Based out of NYC and starting to think about school as a pivot.
