Columbia MSRED - GRE
Looking for some advice on my MSRED application. I'm currently working in tech hoping to pivot into Real Estate through an MSRED program preferably at Columbia. Had a 3.2 GPA in college, got my degree in accounting, did a quick stint at a firm before going into fintech, generally in sales roles. Have worked for some pretty well regarded unicorns and have what I would say is a decent resume. Took the GRE and got a 318. Wondering if I should include this since it's optional or if would ultimately detract. Seems like 320+ is the target. Any advice is appreciated.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, your GRE score of 318 is slightly below the typical target of 320+ for competitive programs like Columbia MSRED. However, whether to include it depends on the overall strength of your application. Here are some considerations:
Highlight Strengths Elsewhere: If your work experience at well-regarded fintech unicorns and your resume are strong, you might be able to offset a slightly lower GRE score. Focus on showcasing your unique skills, leadership, and how your background in tech and sales can bring a fresh perspective to real estate.
Optional GRE Submission: Since the GRE is optional, you could choose not to submit it if you feel it might detract from your application. Instead, emphasize other aspects of your profile, such as your professional achievements, personal statement, and letters of recommendation.
Retake Option: If you believe you can improve your GRE score with additional preparation, retaking it could be worthwhile. A higher score could strengthen your application and demonstrate your commitment to the program.
Application Strategy: If you decide to submit the GRE, ensure the rest of your application is compelling. Highlight your pivot story from tech to real estate, your transferable skills, and your passion for the field.
Ultimately, the decision to include your GRE score should be based on whether it adds value to your application or if other elements of your profile can compensate for it.

have you considered an mba? msre cohorts are often pretty young and you may benefit more from a more senior program.
Factually incorrect and actually the opposite. The average and median age is higher, at least for columbia msred program.
There are other reasons to consider one program vs the other. Just pointing out an obvious error.
