Credit metrics like dscr/dy are important, but most of the bank jobs in debt AM are about reporting/surveillance and covenant management.

I would be looking for someone detail oriented, organized, personable and willing to learn. I would be less concerned about hard modeling skills, but it would be a big bonus if you have them.

Over the long term, it would be about establishing relationships with the groups that make lending work - legal, compliance, risk, servicing, accounting, etc., being exposed to default/NPL/workout scenarios.

If you transitioned to a high yield shop it would be more about exposure to value-add/opportunistic business plans, how back leverage works and heavier surveillance/workout situations.
