Development in a new city

What are the development opportunities like in Utah? Specifically Salt Lake City. Looking to get out of California and start a career in development, originally wanted to go to Nashville (where my family is) but everything I read says I'm late to the party there, so now looking at moving to SLC. any insights would be appreciated.
