Difference Between Placement Agent and Mortgage Broker

What are the major differences between a Mortgage Broker and a Placement Agent? More particularly, for CRE, but also in general.

I understand a placement agent can help secure equity investment as well.

Mortgage broker, capital markets broker, D/E broker, placement agent, investment banker, etc. are all ultimately people in the business of earning a fee for arranging financing for deals and entities (debt or equity). The deal with people who call themselves "placement agents" is that they are (usually) focusing on raising equity capital (sometimes called LP capital, given the structure) for funds or syndication deals. They are often licensed securities brokers by necessity and are more like financial advisors/stock brokers in structure.
