Do analysts at top debt and equity placement brokerages create models from scratch?
Do analysts at top debt and equity placement brokerages ever create models from scratch or do they just use or rework the client's models? Thanks
In my team we are all proficient and able to create models from scratch. Practically speaking however, we use templates from existing deals on a day-to-day basis.
More often than not however, there will need to be some changes made to the model which is where our modelling proficiency is crucial, but the changes are relatively small
What are examples of some of the minor changes you would make?
neither, they have internal templates. Building from scratch for every deal sounds like a huge waste of time and resources.
Short answer: No definitely not daily
Long(er) answer: You need to be able to do it because the day to day changes often require an intricate knowledge of how the existing model you are using works
