East Coast Retail Firms?
Anyone aware of retail firms in the Charleston market? Maybe firms that have satellite offices in the Charleston market?
Thought about switching asset classes, but really enjoying the grind of retail. I am aware of Ziff but had a hard time finding others.
Prefer to remain on the equity side in acquisitions.
Unfortunately I can only name firms in the NY area. What is your outlook on retail with the tariffs that were just put in place?
I think necessity based (grocery anchored) will fare fine, but the discretionary assets (open air, power centers, enclosed malls, etc) may be hurt the most.
The caveat is that there are A LOT of firms looking to invest in retail that have held off for the past several plus years. Including enclosed malls

(1) Where do strip malls fit in the categories you referenced? Does it depend on tenant mix?
(2) Retail has had its moment in the sun the last several years. Why have people been on the sidelines?
What are the retail firms in NY?
Brookfield has a retail arm. Brixmor. DRA. Many of the life co.’s in NY do retail and some have specific people that do it. Northwood has a retail vertical as well.
Berkeley Capital has a satellite office in Charleston doing retail investment sales

I dealt with a firm named SouthCoast. They’re based out of Hilton Head but also have a Charleston and Atlanta office. Best known for buying up smaller unanchored strip centers. Their founder also founded Invesco and his son runs the firm.

The Beach Company is based out of Charleston. Private developer with good reputation. My understanding is they review retail as ancillary but they have it within their portfolio.

Burroughs & Chapin has some good retail. Unfortunately, they are HQ's in Myrtle Beach, but maybe they would be open to you working out of Charleston.
