Equity Commonwealth Office REIT

Just saw that they are deciding to liquidate their remaining assets.

What does this mean from the common shareholders’ perspective? Would their shares essentially be forcefully ‘sold’ at whatever value is left on the stock after selling off the assets?

Or once the company has no more assets other than cash, it is distributed accordingly each shareholder, the corporate entity is void, and on your brokerage account it would show as a cash balance?

If this is the case, would there be the standard capital gains tax implications?
