Insurance company RE investments internship, how is it viewed?
I'm a junior, and I'll be interning next summer in the real estate investments group at a large insurance company. The seat is commercial mortgage lending plus asset management on their real estate portfolio. I’ll also have the chance to work on their mezz debt and private equity funds teams.
- How is insurance company RE investing viewed coming out of undergrad? Is it a solid launch point or more of a niche?
- How easy is it to move from a life co into REPE, debt funds, or institutional asset management?
- What skills or deal exposure should I prioritize over the summer to make that move easier?
- Is a full-time return there a good outcome, or should I keep recruiting?
Appreciate any thoughts.
