Finance position to real estate?

Jaw5xsI have a question. I am currently at a top investment bank in their financial control group. This position is considered "back office". I was previously in Operations and even got a Certificate in Real Estate Development through the Urban Land Institute to show I'm interested in the real estate industry. I have a few contacts in the industry but want to know how hard would it be to transfer to a development analyst or financial analyst position? I see a lot on here how back office doesn't have good exit ops so I just wanted to get some guidance.

This is what I usually tell people in your position - don't bother trying. Stick to what your're doing because the transition usually won't be worth the effort.

Sucks, I know, but the grass isn't always greener and the RE business is not as sexy as it may seem.

I appreciate the response. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time now and possibly do as a career. I don't see myself staying at a bank my whole life. Why do you say it's not worth it? Are you trying to say it will be hard to get a real estate position?

Its very difficult to secure an entry-level position nowadays. Candidates are extremely well-qualified - relevant re exp during college, re coursework, self-taught modelling skills, professional polish, connections in the business, etc.

When we were recruiting last year, we interviewed nearly 50 candidates for 4 analyst spots, all of them well-qualified.
