Catskill Mountains and Hudson River. Hamptons apparently isn't as vogue as it used to be and the new folks who've made it are thumbing their noses at the old money.
Would you buy or have already real estate in the Hamptons or consider these new places the weekend getaway for the modern Elite?

Great place too, I used to catch Moon Jellyfish in Mission Bay.
How many other SD guys are here? I personally never spent much time in Coronado. But Solana/Del Mar/LJ are great communities.

La Jolla is my go-to easy getaway wknd. Wife and I met at UCSD back in the day so we always have fun getting back down there. Just wish there was more finance!!

I'd prefer a cabin on a lake where no one gives a shit who I am or what I do. Ideally there would be descent fishing and the ability to set up a duck blind.
SW Michigan is the place for you. I dont really hunt or fish, but I'm lucky enough that my in-laws have a place on a lake less than 2 hours from Chicago. Boating, fishing and they bought a bunch of wooded, hilly acres 5 min away from a farmer in the center of his farm that aren't practical for agriculture. They put a small mod home there and use it for hunting, shooting and partying....
Noted! Some descent deer in MI. If I ever move to Chicago I will keep that in mind.
Those places aren't any more in vogue than they used to be, they are just still the cheaper options for those who can't afford what they want in the Hamptons (or for sone skiers, they prefer catskills)
Or those with inadequate funds for their own private island with full staff, Yachts, and a Jet to get there and back for the weekend getaway.
No skiers "prefer" the catskills. Some of the the worst skiing in the country.
Catskills? The 1950's are truly back I guess, someone raise Patrick Swayze from the dead.
younger age groups are choosing the other locations because they probably cant afford the Hamptons yet and getting out there sucks... unless you can afford helicopter rides.
I would fly down to Miami.

I mean NY beaches, suck. Big Time. I give exception to Long Beach and Montauk but locals are thumbing their nose at all the young whipersnappers with their chubbies, ray bans, rock and or roll, and butt chugging.
Jersey Shore is quiet and not 100% "MTV Jersey Shore". It's a good 40-120 min on the train/driving depending on where you want to go and when you leave.
Downside of lakes is leaches and aligator snapping turtles.
