Has anyone requested or been mandated the ability to work remotely permanently?

I am based in the northeast but cover acquisitions in various southern markets for my firm. I want to ask the partners if I can just move to the south and work from there 100% (I already fly down to these markets twice a month anyway). Our team has been working remotely since march and it has been extremely effective. I work for a smaller firm though, it's a bit old school.

Curious is anyone else is in a similar boat?

A good friend of mine pulled it off.

It really depends on your value to the firm, your company culture, etc.

LIHTC Developer. He has to drive 2-3 hours to get to an OAC, but he only goes to each job site once a month.

I have a coworker of mine who will be doing it. He's heading out of state to buy a home. He already had been working with his team for several years, very well established and they are a high-powered machine together. I don't see it being too difficult for his team adjusting to it because they are a younger crew. If your firm has been able to witness remote work functioning well i don't see a "no", but would they be willing to accept the team dynamic of you not easily being in the office on short notice? Phone calls, video and email can only go so far, and old school guys don't always mix well with the kinds of technology we have bridging communication.
