How hard is it recruit for FULL-TIME mega fund REPE roles (acquisitions, AM, etc.) if you didn't intern the summer prior?

Haven't seen many do it, so just curious!

I think it’s definitely going to be an uphill battle at the top shops - plenty of rising juniors/seniors with prior experience at smaller buyside shops or any of the big brokerages. Even no name local shops will show recruiters genuine interest in the industry, which a lot of people in RE seem to look for even more so than other verticals within finance. A lot of it goes back to “why real estate?” and 0 past experience while not a dealbreaker doesn’t look great especially to the top funds who will likely have no shortage of qualified applicants.

If you have some sort of past experience in finance you can spin a story on as to why it brought you to RE, that would be a big help. Get involved at your school’s RE club, NAIOP/ULI to show that though you don’t have as much experience, the interest is there. Make sure your technicals are solid, network well with a good story as to why move to real estate, and you certainly have a chance.
