How likely is it for me to find a sublet for my NYC apartment?

I live close to Columbia right now around 180-190 Claremont Ave (just southwest of 125th St and Broadway). My lease expires July 31st but I want to move into a friend's apartment in the Upper West Side on May 1st.

How likely is it for me to find a sublet to replace me in my current apartment? What worries me is that 1. I need someone starting May, which is an awkward date, and 2. It's $1066/month for a tiny bedroom in a 3 bedroom apartment.

Aside from Craigslist, Padmapper, and Columbia's off-campus housing assistance website, where else should I be looking to find someone who might be interested in subleasing this apartment? I posted on Craigslist a couple days ago and only received one response. The guy is a lawyer though so I doubt he's going to want to live in my microscopic room.

Any advice is appreciated. Should I just not move into my friend's apartment? I really want to move, but I can't afford to pay rent for both places.

PMd you, I'm likely switching jobs very soon and will need to move to NYC. Commuting from Jersey just isn't worth it for me anymore.

....and that was my 10,000th post, WOOHOO I'M A HUMAN BEING NOW!!!
