How often do you actually make the “target bonus”?
If my target bonus is somewhere around 20%, how hard is it to actually reach that target bonus? Is it fully dependent on my performance or more so the company performance?
I’ve never seen someone not meet a target bonus. Would likely be due to poor company performance though rather than an individual
Is it based more solely on company performance or employee performance?

Target Bonus almost means, unless you really mess up or the firm is in some serious default we can't pay you. It's more a discretionary bonus.
It's a way a firm can say hey good job without actually having to give you anything extra. They've already written bonuses and bonus structure into their accounting.
Don't get me wrong it's nice getting that 20-50k in like March.
At my company, if you don’t make your target bonus, it’s time to look for a new job.

At two companies (F500 / S&P500) I've worked at, company performance had a big impact on bonus numbers. It does suck when your bonus is lower because one of your segments that you have nothing to do with has a bad year.
Hah. But no one ever seems to think they shouldn't get their bonus when their team underperforms.
It's human nature, I know... but from my experience, it's always someone else's fault and my colleagues always deserve their full bonus, at least in their opinion!
