How to find out what an LP is invested in?
Title says it all. Looking into a national LP and want to find out what they're invested in and with who.

Career Resources
If it is a public pension fund, they all have filings that outline this sort of thing. Believe Preqin & PERE both track this as well for the broader universe of investors, but that'll cost you a pretty penny. Otherwise you'll need to do some googling and tap your network.
Here is the way to do it. Find an LP figure out if they are institutionally back if the institution has public reporting standard go there then dig back down.
If there are no public counterparts you might not have a easy time figuring this all out.
Look for press releases
Please describe the type of LP (endowment, public pension, SWF, etc).
Press releases are definitely good like what decrebepro said. I will have to add that typically it's going to focus on deals done in major markets. I'm assuming since you mention it being a "national LP" they have a lot of money and can easily buy into deals in major markets where a press release is generated. Those releases will often highlight any GPs they may have partnered with.
It's also not unusual for an LP to buy 100 percent ownership in the form of equity. I've seen it in major markets, so they may not necessarily partner up with someone, if you are referring to GP as "with who."
Asset managers also have annual reports where they are required to report everything on their balance sheet, it's another place you can look to see what their portfolio may consist of. It can take some time to thumb through it but it can give you a little more insight to which properties they may be invested in.
If it doesn't file with the SEC - good luck. Maybe PRs as mentioned here.
