IB Real Estate Careers

Since there isn't a lot of interest in the real estate division of investment banks right now, I was wondering if it would be easier as a student from a non-target to break into the real estate division of an investment bank rather than go the typical S&T/M&A route. Thoughts?

Also curious about this. From what I can tell at my target, very few people (I've met one other) are interested in REIB--or anything to do in RE for that matter--compared to other parts of the financial sector

My dad does commercial RE so I'm definitely interested in it, but still want to do something finance oriented as well. I was thinking combining these interests in an IB roll would be interesting. Like I said though, not sure about the pathway for that sector in IB.

There isn't a lot of interest in Real Estate Investment Banking? Maybe it's a bit weaker than traditional IB but that seems like a big over exaggeration to me. Still going to be just about as competitive to get in, especially considering there are tons of experienced folks at REITs, smaller REPE firms, in AM, and a variety of other roles trying to switch over to the REIB path constantly.

Might be a bit easier, but I don't think you're looking at a huge difference here. Could be more or less depending on whether or not the firm in question values some RE experience already and likes those 1-3 years of exp lateral types, or if they favor a fresh out of school kid. I've seen it either way.

Didn't mean to come off as offensive, I was just meaning to say it wasn't as hot as it was before. Thank you for your insight.
