IB vs CRE
I might have the opportunity to intern as a development analyst for a REIT but the problem is I might also have an investment banking internship opportunity. I feel like I can always go IB > re development/acquisitions/investments but not the other way around.
Is it smart to start off in IB to give myself the most amount of options and then go re development if I still want it or am I making a mistake ?
Do what you want to do. If you want to be in development, go that route. If you want to be in banking, go that route.
The only real exception here is if one of the two is a major brand name that people notice. So if you get a banking internship at Goldman or a REIT internship at Prologis, go do that.
So, brand name reit > boutique ib ?
I've been out of the "following wall street" game way too long, but I do know there are legit boutiques out there that also carry weight. But brand name reit vs. no name ib if you want to work in real estate is a good idea generally.
It’s LMM that punches way above it’s weight occasionally with really strong deal flow. Relatively new though.
