If HR is coordinating interviews, are we supposed to send a message to HR after every interview? Also, how many questions is too many? Do you direct questions to interviewers or through HR?

Interviewing recently, and HR's seem to be even more involved than usual. Wanted to understand etiquette.

Send them a note confirming and thanking them for any interview they schedule. If a week or so passes from your last interview it is appropriate to ask about a timeline or follow-up. Reality is HR doesn't make hiring decisions, the group does, so you aren't going to really lose any points if you ask them too many questions or don't thank them profusely after every interview. Just don't be such a slob that they pass on negative feedback to the group members.
