Interview Prep (Moving from IB -> RE)
I was wondering if anyone can provide a "gameplan" for one who has an RE interview but has no clue about the industry. Everything from big books to primers to interview questions (i.e. similar to BIWS 400 questions) that would help prep for an analyst RE interview.
Many thanks.
What type of RE firm do you have the interview with? The interview questions will vary depending on the type of firm you are dealing with.
Why do you want to work in the real estate industry if you have no clue what it entails?
That's supposed to sound snippy, but I do mean it seriously. If you're coming from a legitimate investment banking background, you've probably already been "pre-screened", so to speak, for modeling ability and general work ethic. You should be able to explain why you want to work in the business. You don't need to pitch it as though it's some all-consuming passion (I believe smart people smell canned BS), but it should sound sincere and it should be your answer.
If you need help starting to formulate that answer, search the forum for "Why RE?" That question has been asked many times. There are a lot of right answers, yours will depend on you.
