Interview - Real Estate Investment Banking Analyst

Could anyone describe the process of a REIB interview? Whether from personal experience or flat out knowledge. I have my initial phone call this week with a VP at a global asset management firm in their investment banking division, focusing on real estate. I have never interviewed at a bank before, let alone a REIB position, so I am completely lost.

Anything I should expect for this call with the VP? Do you think it would be the typical resume walk-through or would you think he would ask me some technicals right off the bat? I know it's early in the process, but I am trying to gain as much info as I can before Friday.

Thank you everyone for the insight

Just a few things to add: Know about cap rates, recent developments in their markets or just overall RE market, know what they specialize in (i.e. know about the company in depth, their services, asset classes they invest in) and know how to model and calculate NOI for properties. Should be more behavorial but this is just beginner stuff you should have down when considering this position. Best of luck!

Most important questions for the intro call are tell me about yourself / walk me through your resume and why real estate investment banking (why not traditional investment banking? Why not go into acquisitions / development?). Sounds simple but those are the biggest questions you’ll be judged on so be genuine, not robotic.
