is anyone allowed to wfh in the future or is it dead
My company is soon requiring us back in office and there is ZERO talk of any flexibility on wfh. I’m pretty irritated. We already get majorly shafted on vacation days so I guess I can’t say I’m surprised. What’s everyone else’s company’s doing?

I've been back in pretty much full time since last summer.
My wife's company (insurance) is going back to office but with a google style of either certain days (Mondays and Fridays) you can WFH or a set bucket of WFH days (like ~30). They haven't settled on one yet.
I love this idea, the bucket one.
Wouldn't the bucket one equate to less than 1 WFH day a week for a year? Sounds a little small.
Bucket idea is cool, I’d picture it working as an accrual per month like with vacation or sick days
We have the option of going back when/if we want to. Not sure if that's going to stick, but the culture here is pretty good. I'm optimistic. I do miss the social aspect of the office though, so i plan on going in a few times a week at the very least.
Northeast big buyside firm. Rumor is we doing 2 days a week in office starting Sep. Teams have to all go in on same day. Whether or not people will actually do that remains to be seen.
I expect them to send out a survey to gauge how many days a week each team wants to be in the office before making it a policy.
Our firm offers flexibility until 2022. Not entirely set in stone yet, but they believe a quick return won't be possible.
There are too many factors at hand our company can't control.
My firm is making everyone come back into the office when our state officially opens up, but some of the senior VPs are able to continue working remote, so I have no idea what the actual policy is.
Allowed to start going back part time July 5th and everyone can go back to the office full time after Labor Day. With that said, our entire acquisitions department has been given the option to work from pretty much anywhere, whenever. I still consider it advantageous to be in the office at least half the time to show face with exec's and what not, but nice to be able to have the flexibility to work from wherever.
Did it bother you pre-COVID? If not, why the complaints now?
Honestly yes...switched from a company that let me wfh so it was an adjustment from the get go. .. I was hoping the wfh “experiment” would open up some new doors but it’s just frustrating that we have to act like it never happened or wasn’t completely doable! Idk how to bring it up with out sounding whiny like your comment is making me seem lol
A lot of companies in this industry are run by old guys who have a particular mindset on how work should be. Things change slowly in real estate.
If you're working under an older manager who is set in their ways, I think 99% of people falling into that category are going to end up back in the office. WFH is forward-thinking and its not going to catch on all at once with people who have been doing it the old way their entire careers. If its a major factor in your job satisfaction, switch to a firm that allows it. There are plenty of them - although you're probably going to have the best luck targeting one that doesn't have a significant vested interest in office assets lol.
Then I'd say you should find a role that will let you work from home. Honestly, WFH has been serviceable but there are certainly benefits to being around colleagues, in person, in the office. I think it's perfectly reasonable for a job to insist you return to that. Just as it's perfectly reasonable for you to object, and quit and go work somewhere else.
My colleagues who have left have more or less demanded it from their new firms. I think that's the only way that it remains in the work place, if it becomes required to attract top talent.
Agreed, I think the younger generation is going to start to demand it from their employers as at least a hybrid model after going through this. I know I'm one of those people - there's not a chance I'll opt to go to a firm where it's mandatory to be in the office 5 days a week going forward if it is at all an option at other shops (although I think everyone should expect to have to ride out any probationary period in the office).
100% I think people should do the hybrid route and not full WFH though. There's too much value in getting facetime with your boss to drop it entirely.
Yeah the negotiation for my colleagues has always been around 2 days in the office, 3 remote (maybe 3 in the office initially and trending to 2 remote).

Lol. I feel that. My company is subsidiary of an Asian corp and it was super hard to get them to go with the wfh trend when Covid started. Huge cultural thing for them where wfh is frowned upon. This is another reason I hope more CRE firms embrace hybrid so my firm is more likely to have to follow suit
My group is bi costal and we travel 20%+ so while work is pushing to reopen the office (citing culture development), nothing will really change for us because we already had flexibility.
I will say, we hired about 10 new people in 2020 and while I've emailed/called all of them for one reason or another, we've never met in person and that is pretty weird.
Really though, the biggest issue with have partial wfh is that there will always be a contingent that goes in the office full time that looks down on the wfh people. Those people also tend to be older/the bosses.
I have heard that there are a bunch of law associates that are jumping ship based on WFH. The law firms are so busy right now that they have to offer it to retain talent.
They allowed us back in a month or two ago. We're supposed to be doing 50% of the office at a time but I don't think it's really monitored. My boss is doing MWF, one colleague is full remote. I've been going in 2-3 days a week depending on my schedule with property tours and personal things but haven't at all since last week. No one asks so I sort of just do my thing. We have a very relaxed team and there's only a few of us though, so probably less corporate than most
Thankfully I've always had the option to work remote for flexibility but hardly did because it wasn't as accepted. The one good thing to come out of the pandemic is WFH.. I'm glad it's more common now. I prefer working in the office, having the facilities is huge for us especially when it comes to client meetings, but if I can ditch the commute a few days a week I'll definitely take it
Graduate intern here in an NE office. It’s pretty much hybrid with teams alternating days. Seems like a pretty lose hybrid structure so far and it’s been enjoyable.
