Is RE Asset Management a safe career? Volatility? Compensation?
I'm looking for a safe-ish career in RE and I recently came across Asset Management as a possible way to get my foot in the door: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/real-estate… https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/real-estate… https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/real-estate…
I have a few questions regarding RE AM: 1. Consider one of the top PE funds with RE units (Blackstone, Brookfield, Starwood, Carlyle, Cerberus), let's say Blackstone just for simplicity. Why does Blackstone have a separate entity that handles AM? Why carve it out instead of leaving it within Blackstone?
Is RE AM a safer job than Acquisitions or Development? What happens to AM arms during downturns? Lots of firings or is the business stable even during recessions?
Following from #2 above, what is compensation like? I came across this old thread but I think it may be out of date: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/real-estate… What is FP&A like in this field? Do you still get bonus potential? What are the hours like?
