Jamestown Reputation

Hi all,

I am interested in learning about Jamestown's reputation as a firm. My very close friend recently received an offer from their asset management group and I am trying to help him decide whether it would be a good place to begin a career. Figured this would be the best place to find an answer to his question. Seems like they are well known for their value-add strategy and that there is great opportunity to grow within the firm long-term (even internationally). Also presents the chance to have exposure across asset classes. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Also curious about exit opps...

They have the absolute best reputation. Really can't say enough about the company and the people who work there. Exceedingly brilliant. I turned down an offer last year, primarily because they've shifted from development and their development team scattered, but it was difficult doing so.

That said, they are known to be an absolute sweatshop. Tons of turnover and not only on the lower levels. If you/your friend are cool with that, then by all means go for it. If you/your friend are interested in more work/life balance, you might want to weigh the pros and cons.

Great shop. Sexy porfolio–they're a direct competitor with ASB on many of the mixed-use/urban retail type stuff they own.
