Lateraling to Competing Capital Markets Team - 2 Weeks Notice

I’m an associate in capital markets interviewing with a direct competitor Capital markets team for a lateral role. Same market and business line. Assuming I am offered the role, I assume I’ll be terminated immediately upon notifying my current team? I am planning to offer 2 weeks, but it seems unlikely considering the overlapping clients.

Anyone else been in a similar position?

I’d be shocked if they wanted to keep you for two weeks. They’ll probably call IT immediately and shut down your access to the network and the building and say peace

I posted a response, IDK why it got removed.

Going through this exact process right now.

IMO depends on team size and whether you are a producer or desk monkey (assuming the latter as an associate). I'm on a leaner team what one of the large brokerages. They want me to stay through the two weeks. If you are a producer, expect an immediate let-go.

IDK your team's dynamic / boss's tolerance, but expect the process not to be a fun one. Best of luck. Do what is best for you and your career.

You will probably be marched out right away, really just depends what access you have and threat they think you pose.

Either way, as someone who has been through this recently, it won’t be fun and people who you’ve looked up to may reveal their true colors but know that it’s nothing personal and you are right to be excited for what’s ahead. Even if they try to make you feel small or second guess it, it’ll be over before you know it.
