Looking for guidance – next steps in CRE career
I’m 22 and got my license in May after almost three years working as an assistant to an industrial broker. My focus is tenant rep in the industrial sector.
Since getting licensed, I’ve closed two small leases and I’m eager to keep going, but my relationship with my broker (who’s also been my mentor) has become really toxic over the past year. He’s gone off the deep end, and it’s been a downhill spiral since the start of the year. I’ve learned a lot from him and genuinely loved working for him, but he’s getting in his own way. I’ve kept hoping things would improve, but they’ve only gotten worse.
My biggest hesitation about leaving is that he feels like my only foot in the door. Most of my connections are through him, separating feels really intimidating. I joined ULI but haven’t gone to any events yet mostly out of nerves.
I don’t have a degree, but I’ve built up solid hands-on experience and would consider myself a self-starter who’s willing to learn from others as well as teach myself.
Do I stick it out a little longer or start looking into brokerages ?
