Looking to invest in CRE/modeling course, any recommendations
Hi everyone. Currently a first year analyst at CRE firm doing acquisitions/investments, and I would like to up my game outside of work so I can progress quicker in my role. I know ACRE, WSP, WSO and others have programs to help with modeling, general knowledge, etc. I was wondering if anyone who has experience with these programs can shed some light on which would be most helpful to my situation. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Breaking into Cre is good
Honestly? The best course you can have is your job, especially since you are in acquisitions and not in back office roles. Take some time to read REAL contracts (SPAs, financing agreements, lease agreements) and ask tons of questions to your associate. Browse the internal network of your company and look at IC memos and BPs from old underwritings. Speak with other colleagues covering other asset classes or in other roles. Go beyond what's asked for your seniority. You'll thank me later
Thank you for the advice!
Agreed with this, but getting a course IMO is a great idea as it ensures all the basics are covered, easy to miss things when self-teaching. I've always liked Breaking into CRE. The models are great from A.CRE, not familiar with their course/certification.
Hey, I completed the accelerator through ACRE and can't recommend it enough. I bought the first tier at first and ended up paying for the additional modules, which were extremely helpful. Michael and Spencer made high-quality videos and practice modules you can use at your own pace. My knowledge and skills in financial modeling vastly improved thanks to them.
Thank you for your input, I'm going to look into it.
Watching Justin Kivel's "Break Into CRE" videos on YouTube was a big help for me in understanding general RE concepts. I guarantee he covers any topic you want more information on in a short, easily digestible 10-minute video. I've also done most of his modeling courses which again were a huge help. He has very simple waterfall/proforma/construction modeling videos if you are more beginner, to much more complicated examples that will teach you everything you need to know and some. The only downside is the course is kind of expensive, around $99 a month, however, he also sells each model individually. Right now I think the site has a 75% discount on certain courses
