Looking to lateral as a RE associate - Advice?
Fellow WSO members, I am looking to lateral from my current position (RE associate working on acquisitions) to another firm. What are the best ways to network, find jobs out there? I have contacted several headhunters but received few responses. (current company culture, growth opportunities not working out)
Where are you looking to work (location-wise)?
There have been a few recruiters who are looking for personnel in the DFW market that have reached out to me directly. I've always declined and left the door open for a referral if one comes my way.
Location wise, I am fairly committed to the NY area for now. DFW seems to be a thriving market. Are these recruiters local to that region?
Dallas and Houston are especially hot for real estate development at the moment. Given the size, they are on par with the likes of Los Angeles and NYC. I'd give it a second thought if the opportunity arises.
GS has a recruiter that is local who has been pinging me pretty hard for the Realty Management Division seeking analyst/associate/VP positions. It would appear turnover there is pretty high? Although I can't confirm.
Prudential has hit me up twice looking for a multifamily finance analyst/associate.
Other RE firms I've been in contact with include JLL, C&W, Colliers, Newmark Knight Frank and Greystar and these messages have come directly from the respective practice leader vice an HR recruiter.
Thanks for the info. I will look them up. Any contact info you could share would be helpful.

Swimtexan , how long have you been an associate? I'm curious how long I have to last before being contacted by firms like GS and Greystar. That's awesome.
2 Years. However, I think it's more or less about developing a strong professional profile and having meaningful relationships with others at these companies. I've helped a good number of my fellow alumni find positions which I think may have put me on the radar as well. Lastly, just be a good dude!
Thank you! 5 more months until I'm 2 years so prospects probably increase then.
