Managing Up

Long story short, my boss, a smart guy but out of his depth in his role, does not have a finance/development background, but instead a background in architecture. He’s ambitious, and he sends me lots of deals to look at, and they are a complete waist of time.

He’s very much trying to step up to his role, which he’s responsible for acquisitions through disposition, but he doesn’t have a clue when it comes to the finance/capital markets side of the business, and it’s a waste of time and energy.

Has anyone dealt with this before? How can I better help him realize this is my domain, and the stuff he’s asking me to look at is a waste of time?
