Merging Commercial Real Estate with Big Data/Business Analytics

As someone who is about to start pursuing an MBA focused on Business Analytics and Big Data, I am curious to get other opinions on where can someone who has deep knowledge of Commercial Real Estate (5+years) coupled with knowledge of Big Data/BA can go?

I feel like there has been a big push for companies (outside of real estate) looking at those who know how to help turn their vast amounts of data into useful data to create efficiencies. However, commercial real estate doesn't seem to have too much development in that arena yet. My limited experience has shown that outside of some strong residential RE applications (Zillow, OpenDoor, etc) , there isn't much. Yes you have your Costar's, Axios, REIS, etc., but that is 3rd party data.

Where do you see the role of Business Analytics going within Commercial real estate?

Maybe I'm just misinformed, but I feel like there is real potential to be a 'unicorn' as someone who knows both real estate and big data. I just want to know what type of companies or jobs to start looking at as I start in order to help network and find post-grad opportunities.

The global players are using big data - Prologis' chief legal officer told me they are essentially becoming a tech company. They're using the data they collect all over the world to guide their high level strategies around the world and to deliver extremely high tech, efficient warehouses that essentially automate everything for their tenants and property managers.

I would guess your skill set would be most applicable in a corporate strategy group of a global or highly active national RE company. I imagine real estate groups within the MBBs of the consulting world also utilize big data when guiding their clients. I bet you could also spin your story to get in with a data center group if you want to work at the asset level/on a deal team.
