Mind reading requirements for real estate private equity?

Currently in banking, but looking to move over to real estate PE, preferably in multifamily.

Not sure if it’s just my firm (or banking in general) but the hardest part of my job is trying to read the mind of my MD. Asking for clarification often results in passive aggressive comments or belittling.

Ik culture depends on the firm, but what is the temperature of the industry in general? Apologies for being a novice, but I just want to know a little more about the culture of the industry. In other words, would like to work for someone who I look up to personally AND professionally. Is this the right way to look at my career path?

Less to do with industry and more who you work with and for. I’ve worked for amazing people and ass*oles in real estate. It sounds like you just have a mean MD. When searching for your next role, try to focus on fit and look for a team of nice people. It’s hard to suss out in an interview, but go with your gut. Sometimes you get an idea. And FYI this applies across the whole working world. Sometimes you work with good people and sometimes bad.
