Most Hostile/Litigious Real Estate Stories
This comes with the territory in CRE but I’d love to hear about some of the intense deal/legal battles everyone has come across in their day. I’m getting more experience around NYC and getting a much better understanding of what people mean when they say there’s a lot of hardball-type players in town whether it’s buyers, loan-to-own groups, etc. Curious what some people’s craziest stories are.
NYC real estate folks generally suck. They all tend to think they’re better than people in all other markets and act as such. Actively avoid working with nyc firms as a result.
Costar is a legal department pretending to be a data company.
To emphasize on this, CoStar has a toxic culture, heard this on the street from many Analysts. I declined my offer from them with a similar offer elsewhere. They were rude and condescending after I sent a professional thank you letter with my rescinding.
I'm at the point, I kind want to apply again and then ghost them. I'm petty like that.
Was talking to a veteran NYC real estate lawyer who said that Donald Trump once tried to terminate the ground lease on the Empire State Building. This guy had seen it all, but even he was incredulous about that.
