Moving states after MSRE/MBA?
I was wondering if anyone here has moved states after finishing their MSRE program, and what your experience was like? Here’s my situation, I’m going to be going to a top MSRE program on the east coast (think Cornell,NYU,Georgetown), however my family and gf live in LA. My goal is to move back to LA after but I know lots of people say you should go to the MSRE/MBA program nearest to the location you want to be in.
What’s the best way to land a job back in LA? Networking?
If you go to an Ivy League this might sort of make sense. But your ROI will be infinitely higher if you just go to USC.
Going to USC would have been the more obvious move here since it is no less of a "top MSRE" program than the three you listed, but I think you'll be fine given that your family is on the west coast and you have roots there. It's much easier to "come back" to a place than it is to just randomly try and move there. I would make sure you network in person before you leave, network remotely throughout the year, try to come back for an internship over the summer, and generally keep your focus on returning in the front of your mind.
