Networking in Real Estate
Hey everyone, I’m a third-year bachelor student studying Real Estate in Canada. I’ve been coffee-chatting to land an RE internship for the whole of last year now, but haven’t actually been able to land one for the upcoming ‘25 summer. I recently applied to the RE arm of a pension fund (QuadReal, Onyx, Ivanhoe) for an investments intern role in YVR and networked aggressively. I coffee-chatted both the campus ambassadors and also both the recruiters who handle intern recruitment. I even attended an office tour and networked with the director of investments who told me he’d “keep an eye out” for my resume and got both the campus ambassadors to read and critique my cover letter. Despite all of that, I wasn’t offered the interview and got rejected straight-up. And this is only one example out of a few positions I’ve been rejected from. I’m looking for some advice and some things to work on as real estate recruiting in YVR starts accelerating. I’ve done two modelling courses, both from WSO, and am reasonably confident in my modelling skills and RE fundamentals. Apart from this, what should I focus on? What am I doing wrong in terms of recruiting?
