NYC Commercial Rent Control
Anyone following the “Small Business Jobs Survival Act" (Intro 737)?
Followed the discussion a bit in the spring. Supposedly the city has no legal power to enact the it, but news outlets are picking up the reporting this week.
Proposed law would apply to all commercial leases and require all commercial tenants be offered a ten-year lease renewal that can only be changed with the tenant’s approval. Rents would be set by binding arbitration if the tenant does not agree to the owner’s offer.
