Opinions on Homebuilders?
Hi all,
I've been working as a broker in office/ retail properties for 1-2 years and have been wanting to get into multifamily/ mixed development for a while now. I have some connections in town and have been through a number of informational interviews but most of the shops are looking for someone with 3-5 years experience or aren't looking for anyone right now. The only groups that are really interested in me have been home builders (I'm in a market where they thrive, think Denver/ Houston). Would it make sense to do a year or two at a builder on the acquisitions/ dev side? It's closer to multifamily than I am currently and having a steady paycheck would really help financially. My biggest concern would be getting pigeonholed.
Any thoughts?
If you want to be a developer then go for it- home builders are developers, you'll learn a lot about the business.
I appreciate the response.
