Not necessarily relevant to this thread, but many in the RE forum ask about exit opps when discussing extremely respected and large firms in the PERE 100. Aren't most of the firms in these lists the exit opps themselves? These firms are where the IS analysts and RE IB analysts are trying to transition to if im not mistaken. Only more "prestigious" exit opp, which I am guessing is what people want when referring to exit opps, is moving to a firm higher up on the list.

To be honest, my goal, along with a lot of the people I've talked to, in the long-term is to work for a small shop with a more entrepreneurial environment and hands-on learning experience. Currently at one of those MF REPE firms and it's more for the branding and a stamp of approval for a training program. A lot of smaller shops (10-30) only recruit experienced hires and have leadership/experience from tops firms.

Hi - can you specify reasons why your goal is to break into a small / entrepreneurial firm rather than getting offer(s) from these big dogs? I am actually deciding between and would love to hear your thoughts :)
