Pigeonholed into development

Do you guys think interning at a development firm and with my experience being centered around that sector could limit my opportunities or “attractiveness” towards a career in other departments such as acquisitions or asset management? I’m currently interning at one of the major players in the real estate development space and with full time recruitment coming up, I’m not sure if my experience in development would speak well when recruiting for asset management or acquisitions.

No. You won’t be pigeonholed from an internship. You really won’t be pigeonholed ever.

I did leasing brokerage for office. Moved to a life company where I did asset management/acquisitions and debt capital markets. I then moved to private equity to do acquisitions and asset management. Now I am at a developer. My boss did acquisitions for 15 years. Now just does development. You can always move around. Your network will allow this. Not your previous job.
