On the one hand, it's a good job with solid pay, good market reputation, you'll learn a lot and so on. Lot's of my boys from HBS were interested and or went (it's mostly HBS guys, at least in the CT office). On the other hand, it's a better option if you only did 2-3 years of work before MBA. if you did 5-7, it kind of sucks, because you get no credit for your work beforehand, and start out with guys who are much more junior than you at the same pay level. Also, it can take a while to get promoted to VP, like 3+ years. I knew one guy who went to IBD after HBS for 2 years (he didn't come from finance), then he joined as associate and then still needed 3+ years to make VP... and he did not have performance problems ... Another negative is that culture is hard and work life balance is bad. Lastly, you make have to spend time doing a sort of special assist job for Barry which is obviously cool but which gets VERY mixed reviews from people.

My final word- if you're 26 and did like 2-3 years in IBD before business school and want to work hard and learn it's perfect for you. If you're 31, have a wife or fiance, and did a few years buyside before MBA, you might look elsewhere.

From what I understand (one of my guys from my previous firm went to do the program) you literally like have to do everything from reviewing IC memos for him and providing summaries down to like going to pick up his dry cleaning or whatever... on the positive side, I heard you do get to fly in his jet
