RE Capital Firms - the likes of HFF

Hi - I have a JD/MBA from a T25 university and have spent my whole life in RE transactions (literally since I could walk). My family invests in the equity of distressed real estate (primarily residential & raw land) and also invests in debt of larger properties. With that being said, I'm looking for a firm that specializes in real estate capital market transactions. I've interviewed with JLL and they are looking to place me in their Capital Markets Group, but also suggested that firms like HFF (Holliday, Fenoglio, Fowler) are very good firms to look into also.

Any other suggestions for firms and anybody want to offer their experience with such firms or this industry? Thanks.

Almost all the brokerages have that group. Check the [ your city ] webpage of all the big brokerages. CBRE, Northmarq, CushWake, etc etc. These guys mostly place debt and it's possible your local/metro area's 'business journal' has a ranking of the top commercial real estate mortgage groups in town by volume. If you've spent your whole life in RE this should be a cakewalk.

I would also look into Walker & Dunlop as they recently announced the acquisition of CW Capital which will make them one of the largest originators. ($7.7b CRE loan originations in 2011). Though it is important to note that that sector will be more sales oriented. If you are looking for a more challenging environment I would seek placement in PE, credit HF, etc.
