RE Development Advancement Q

I work for a boutique developer working on projects mostly in the SE. Right now, it’s a two man team the son of the CEO/founder of the company and myself. We have an in house project manager who is also really good at what he does. My question is how to ask for more responsibility, I have sat in on hundreds of negotiation, arch, and civil meetings. I feel like I could lead a project myself with the help of out pjm. Is there a specific way I should ask for more responsibility and to lead a project?

Do you have experience prior to that? Leading an entire project with 2 years of experience is frankly an absurd ask IMO. Putting that much responsibility on the shoulders of somebody who (no offense, but the following is true no matter how much you think it isn't) doesn't know very much would be irresponsible by leadership.

Start by asking for specific additional responsibilities you are interested in at your 2 year anniversary and grow from there.

use your 2 year anniversary as an "excuse" for a meeting with your higher ups. Put your cards on the table and see what they say. Maybe they don't think you are ready yet, or maybe they are waiting for you to initiate. But make it known that's what you want to do. If they say you're not ready yet. Ask what can I improve on? How can I get to that point? It's tough in small organizations to have these conversations sometimes, but luckily you have the benefit of not having to navigate bs HR red tape. You can talk to decision makers directly.
