Real Estate Credit - Asset Management

Does anyone have any info on this team within KKR's Real Estate Credit group? Any insight in to day-to-day activity, exposure to originations team, and comp? I would think the team is very borrower-facing given the transitional/short term nature of the debt they issue. Would this be a good group to join if I'm already coming from a debt originations role at a REIT focused on multi? Looks like it could be a pretty solid spring board for a career at KKR or a jump back to debt originations somewhere else after a few years in this group. They lend on 10x more institutional product than the deals that cross my desk on an average day and the company stamp might just make it worth switching from originations to AM for a little.

Any perspective helps. Thanks,

I assumed you’re an analyst / associate on the originations team.

I don’t think any company wants to train you for Debt AM, just to train you again to move to the originations team. They’re looking for people who enjoy Debt AM and want to do it for a while. It’s costly to constantly bring in new talent and train them.

If you’re okay with being in Debt AM long term, then I think it’s a good move. But it would be really rough if the internal move doesn’t work out and you have to re-recruit.

I prefer the path of -> lateral to originations team somewhere better but not quite KKR -> try to lateral to KKR if that’s still important to you. That way you’re still in your preferred career path if things don’t work out
