Real estate intern work ideas?

What are some good ideas for a college real estate investment intern with basically no prior industry knowledge?  One idea could be submarket research, i.e. analyzing demographic research for specific submarkets a company is targeting and creating a database of strong submarkets.

What are some other things you have had interns do that were 1) good learning experiences for them 2) challenging for them but not ridiculously difficult and 3) at least somewhat valuable to the company?

1) Document Review & Formatting - as mundane and boring as it sounds, gives an intern exposure to the documents. Arguably, the intern has a lot of time on their hands, so they should be able to review deal docs, ask questions to learn, and point out any typos or formatting issues that might otherwise go overlooked. If the intern plays it right, they can get great exposure into how a deal actually functions from a legal/financial/technical perspective just by reading the docs and asking questions. Their question might even point out some detail missing from the deal.

2) Data Entry & Research - particularly if your intern is college-aged, you might have them sift through industry articles and aggregate data related to your investments. Recent deals that have transacted, major tenants that seem to be on the move, etc... The MD/Boss might already know the stuff the intern finds, but it's a good way to start letting the intern think like an owner, and might unearth some decent data that can be used in a meeting or OM.

These are particularly helpful if you have some intent on hiring the intern full time at a later date. If the internship is a long-term interview, this will help get that person acclimated to the business.
