Real Estate Investment Analyst Interview - Intelligent Questions

Hi Everyone,

I'm interviewing at a commercial real estate firm soon and was given the advice to ask questions about their capital partners (they work with a lot of pension funds). However, I can't think of any intelligent questions to ask.

Any help you could offer would be fantastic.

Thanks.

  • Have they established funds for when they make investments, or do they raise capital on a deal-by-deal basis from investors?
  • Do they co-invest with their LP's? What's the usual structure they'll set up if they do?
  • Do they have a formal process for bringing a deal to their capital partners and raising the funds? Ask to walk you through their process when approaching partners
  • Are they finding that their capital partners are completely uninterested in certain asset classes and completely for other ones with changing trends in retail, e-commercial etc.?
