Hey Guys! I'm going to be a RE Summer Analyst for a shop in Connecticut, but for some reason, it was extremely difficult for me to find one in NYC. I'm going to apply to the more well known PE firms (BX, KKR, Carlyle, TPG, AGASM, etc.) in the future, but I was wondering if you guys know where I could find some shops in the city?

Really vague question, but NYC is a finance city...so yeah it's probably the best in the US. However, keep in mind while headquartered in NYC, most large REPE shops have multiple satellite offices because you generally need physical boots on the ground/acquisitions staff in different regions to source potential deals.
I've heard that a lot of investors don't wanna deal with NYC real estate because of the crazy laws the city has which makes it very complicated to have a competitive advantage in the market.
What kind of question is this? Just like vanilla PE, getting into REPE isn't about what city the fund is in (whether it's in the middle east, London, Chicago, SF, etc.), it's about having the right experience.
I know people who made it to target B-schools after working in MO roles at NYC BBs and they had semi-target undergraduate degrees with less than stellar GPAs. Do you think they would have made it if they worked outside of NYC?
