REIT to REPE sponsor

Hello all! I currently work as an acquisitions analyst at a large public REIT. I started off working in the operations department as a utilities analyst. My question is, do public REITs offer good “experience” (something to show as a sort of track record) when it comes to forming your own REPE/syndication fund. Now I’ve done extensive research into forming syndication so trust me, I know that working at a REIT doesn’t give me all the answers. I’m more concerned with: in the future, if I go to make my own real estate fund, would it appeal to potential LP’s that I have substantial experience in a REIT with an identical asset class? Even further, which department (acquisitions, ops, asset management, FP&A, etc.) would be best with boosting my sponsorship qualities to potential investors?

I sincerely appreciate all your comments and suggestions!!

Thanks so much!
