REPE Firms that Offer Internships?
Hi all,
Currently a sophomore in semi target school with an internship lined up this summer for a large brokerage firm. I'll be working as an investment sales intern. I want to shoot for a REPE firm next summer but I am wondering which large firms offer internships because some dont have it at all and many dont list internships available on their website even when they do have an opening.
If you have any tips to land a REPE internship undergrad please advise as well.
Thanks
Networking is key... definitely an uphill battle if you're going for structured SA roles at large funds that can feed into FT role. BX and SWOOD recruit for both acquisitions and AM.... really competitive to even get into the process for either. SWOOD is particularly picky when it comes to schools. Really need to be at an Ivy or Duke/GTown/Michigan type school to be considered for NY office. Others that come to mind are MSREI (extremely competitive), PGIM, Harrison St., Greystar, and Crow. It's also definitely possible to get an internship at another top REPE that doesn't have an analyst program... but that would mean you would have to go through FT recruitment. You could also shoot for BB REIB/Eastdil as well... which can get you REPE looks for FT.
I decided to go with investment sales at a brokerage shop really just to get my feet wet. I had to network pretty hard to get that job. If I wanted to go the REIB route, would I do the traditional IB recruiting gig or would I network as if it's real estate?
Not sure how I would go for IB but only segment it to REIB
Thanks for your reply
All of the BB's to my knowledge do generalist IB recruiting (heard CS recruits separately... but no experience with them), and then there's a group placement process. Never any guarantees... but having prior RE experience does make you standout for those groups. You should network with those from your school and can try to reach out to people in the REIB groups as well. All of the BB's, Jefferies/RBC/WF have great groups. Eastdil also takes 30-40 interns across their US offices. They screwed over their interns this year... but it has been a great experience in the past.
I have the option to take a guaranteed internship with a RE developer next summer. The company takes up a large share of the market in that region. Would that help me break into REPE post grad in the same way REIB would?
