SF Debt Advisory to Chicago REPE

Hello. I work for a Real Estate Debt Advisory firm in SF and am looking to get into REPE in Chicago. How should I go about this? I know a few people at some firms in Chicago and was going to reach out to them, but was wondering if any other people had any advice on this. Thank you.

I would suggest doing a lot of cold outreach alongside leveraging your existing connections. And reach out to recruiters too. Its an especially tough market right now so you gotta take every shot you can.

I was trying to make a move this past year so I reached out to every person I knew in the city I wanted to be in and asked them to connect me with anybody who’d be willing to talk. Made a bunch of connections but none of them turned into anything.

At the same time, I sent 50+ blind LinkedIn connection requests, and one of them became a phone chat, then a referral, which became an interview, and eventually a job in the new city.

I don’t know any of the recruiters for Chicago but going through those channels got me a few interviews too. Good luck!
